Our Vision
Impacting Lives, Globally.
The Harvard Undergraduate Association for U.S. - China Relations (HUAUSCR) gives Harvard students the chance to create life-changing programs that impact thousands of students across China. Our three conferences—HSYLC, China Thinks Big, BPC— and our premier academic YSA Journal impact over 10,000 students each year and open new channels of cross-cultural exchange, with an emphasis on training and educating future leaders of the US and China.
Cultivating Young Minds
Through efforts like bringing liberal arts seminars and university-level research methods to Chinese high school students, we encourage young minds to dare to explore, dream big, and aspire to become trailblazers in their hometowns and beyond. Our students have gone on to study at leading academic institutions, create solutions to pressing social issues, and all cite participating in HAUSCR’s programs as turning points in their lives.
Adapting to a Digital Landscape
Since early 2020, HUAUSCR has moved much of its traditional in-person conference model to a remote format in response to the global pandemic. We adapted rapidly, carrying out both China Thinks Big National Finals and our flagship conference, the Harvard Summit for Young Leaders in China, to advance our mission of education and connection despite these challenges. In March, we transitioned the national level of our social impact research competition to a remote conference, allowing over a thousand competitors to present their work and engage in multiple stages of competition.
Creating a New Normal
In August, we carried out HSYLC-X, organizing over 200 students from universities across the world to teach liberal arts-style seminars to thousands of Chinese high school students, taking advantage of the new digital format to expand our reach.
As we now begin our return to a new normal, our executive board, associates, and China team are working to innovate and optimize our programming and all of our conferences to strike the right balance of in-person operations and virtual programming, all while maintaining our core mission of education and global connection.
